Astonomers are unclear if the Storm Moon has any solid ground, or if it is just a sphere of dense clouds, wind, and lightning. Despite being the largest of the moons, it is the farthest moon from Atruxia, which makes it incredibly difficult to see.
As its name implies, the Storm Moon brings with it strong winds, rain, and thunder. The cloudy weather associated with its presence is part of the reason why most people did not know the moon existed for so long. In addition to that, it is one of the fastest moving moons, able to cross the sky in less than a day.
The Storm Moon can only be seen by the naked eye as a small flicker in a clear night sky. The flickering comes from the incredibly bright flashes of lightning that courses through the dense clouds that completely surround the moon. Astronomers can only see the Storm Moon through telescopes, and describe it as a purple ball of circulating storm clouds with one large, moving, white spot. It is only with an enchanted telescope of massive size can one see that the white spot is a massive hurricane with an enormous eye. If the hurricane were to align correctly with the telescope, astronomers might be able to see through the eye to whatever lies below, but this situation has yet to occur.
One unique property that the Storm Moon has in relation to the other moons is that when the gold moon passes near the Storm Moon, a colorful charge of lightning will jump from the Storm Moon to the Gold Moon. This phenomenon is called “lunar lightning”, and even more fascinating is that if both the Grave Moon and the Gold Moon move close enough, the lunar lightning will jump from the Storm Moon, to the Gold Moon, and will reach the Grave Moon. Astronomers believe that if all the moons were to align, then lunar lightning could strike Atruxia, but this seems mathematically improbable.
Many human wizards study the Storm Moon because from this moon they can learn how to harness the wind. There is a large demand among prominent sailors for wizards with the ability to direct the wind in their favor, and this can lead to great riches.
