Undeniably the most controversial and dramatic moon, when the Grave Moon shines overhead, spirits walk Atruxia in its light. These spirits cannot talk or make any noise, and they cannot touch or be felt. Disturbingly, they can pass through walls and objects at will, and even through the air as if it were a floor.
The spirits are definitely aware of the living, and have found ways to have profound impacts. Some victims of murder have returned to haunt their killer, while others return to continue tormenting those they had tormented during life. Many spirits have tried to trick the living into dangerous situations, while others have led people to lost children or lost treasure.
Not everyone who dies returns as a spirit; no one can predict who they will see under the Grave Moon. Also, it is not just people who return. Ghostly animals, insects, plants, and all manner of life might return as ghostly images of their former selves.
There is a long-standing group of elves who have dedicated their lives to studying spirits, they are called The Order of the Listeners. Followers of the order learn sign language and go around the elven forest teaching the elderly how to sign. They wear wide robes with a distinct striped pattern to make them easy to notice. Spirits are clothes, or at least seem to wear whatever they wore when they died. The listeners dress in the way they do so that their spirit will easily stand out, and other listeners can try to communicate with them if they return. It is said that The Order of Listeners have acquired great knowledge about the afterlife, but they refuse to share it with anyone outside their order.
The Grave Moon is the sixth moon from Atruxia, and despite being closer than the Gold Moon, the Grave Moon is very difficult to see due to its deep gray color. The Grave Moon is only visible by sight at dawn and dusk, but it’s effects are easily noticed. Once it appears in the sky, it takes roughly three days before it disappears beyond the horizon, taking the departed with it.
Wizards who study the Grave Moon gain the ability to leave their own bodies and walk the world undetected by others. It is said that these wizards gain great power while the Grave Moon shines on them, but their spirit becomes susceptible to the spirits that appear, and it is possible for someone else to enter their body while their spirit is away.
