The City of Brexia, the Cornerstone of Peace
City of Brexia

Brexia is a bustling city where members of the five nations can meet and trade in the name of peace. This island in the middle of Lake Brexia had been fought over several times throughout history, but was established as a neutral location in the first peace accords, which became known as the Brexia Accords. The island’s central location made it an ideal place for trade, and from this trade grew a diverse city like no other in all of Atruxia.

Every year, a representative from each of the five nations meets in Brexia to council, and to amend the Brexia Accords to best facilitate a continued peace. Although these leaders have no authority over eachother’s nations, only they can vote to enact changes in Brexia. After decades of growth, this council did agree to delegate authority to a single governor, and a few institutions, such as The Bank of Brexia, and the Brexia City Guard.

Although founded in the name of peace, Brexia can be a dangerous city. Deep seated hatred between certain kingdoms can easily rise to the surface in a city where one never knows who they might bump into. It is common for political tensions to spill into Brexia from the surrounding nations, as well as clashes between old and new ways of thinking. Even though Brexia is a melting pot of cultures, there are obvious divisions, especially between various districts.

The elven district is by far the most affluent, having a number of cultivated parkes, shining towers, and beautiful flora. The elves are an advanced culture, and they like to make sure everyone knows this. They are also a very closed culture, so their district contains everything they might need so that they can avoid mingling with non-elves as much as possible. Their district is the only gated district, and it is also the only district that has its own security force. One might think that the gates and the security are meant to keep out non-elves, but they are actually to keep out the marked “glif elves”, a group of elves ostracized for being born under the wrong moon.

The goblin district is a sprawling mess of buildings and winding roads. When Brexia was a young, many goblins migrated from their jungle to take advantage of the increased trade. The Brexian council had to have an emergency session in order to quickly establish clear laws regarding land ownership in Brexia before the goblins claimed the whole island. Preventing goblin-sprawl did not stop goblins from pouring into the city because once they couldn’t expand outward, they started building upward. The goblins simply built overtop of what they had, and developed seemingly impossible architecture where rooms hang off of buildings, blatantly extending over neighboring properties.

The giant district is ironically the smallest of the districts as giants are highly territorial and have a difficult time living in close proximity to others. The few houses and buildings of the giant district are quite large with very clear fences and walls to mark the edges of their property; these walls are often victims of anti-giant graffiti.

Every few months, the giant district comes alive with activity as the seasonal farmers markets move in. Giants are exceptional farmers, and their produce is almost as large as they are. It is not uncommon for a goblin to buy a giant pumpkin to eat, and then later live in.

The human and dwarf districts are fairly similar, and blend into each other in a few places. There are many narrow alleyways between buildings, and the streets have decorative stone arches over them; these architectural features were purposely designed to make it uncomfortable for giants to navigate these two districts.
